The plan to arrest the DMK’s Trichy strongman KN Nehru was kept a closely-guarded secret even though a complaint against him in a land-grabbing case was lodged with the police a few days back. Assistant police commissioner RM Madhavan, exclusively dealing with landgrab cases, was given the sensitive job of leading the pre-dawn operation.


Detailing the high drama that preceded Nehru’s arrest from his Thillainagar residence in Trichy, Madhavan told TOI that the police waited in cars in front Nehru’s residence from 3am and kept a close watch on him. When the lights came on at 5.30am, a servant came out of the front gate. Madhavan walked up to him and asked whether Nehru was in. The servant, Madhavan said, replied that ‘Anna’ was “out of town.”


Not convinced by the reply, a police team forced their way into the house where they found Nehru in his bedroom. When the police informed him that they had come to execute the arrest warrant against him, a cool, calm Nehru expressed surprise, Madhavan said. “I don’t think I have done anything wrong,” he quoted the former minister as saying. When Madhavan explained the case details, Nehru retorted that it was a false case, at which point, the police team advised him to fight the case in the court of law. Nehru instantly cooperated, the police officer said.


By then, the police had also swooped down on two other key associates of Nehru — former MLA Anbil Periyasamy and businessman Sunderarajulu and took them into custody. By 7am, all of them were taken to the K K Nagar Armed Reserve Police Grounds where some DMK partymen had assembled. They raised slogans against chief minister J Jayalalithaa and shouted, “Don’t’ foist cases on us.” It was a planned move to arrest Nehru and his close associates without leaking the news to the media until the legal formalities were completed.


Union minister MK Alagiri, who was in Trichy to meet DMK functionaries lodged in prison on land-grabbing charges, reacted angrily to the news of the arrests. He said, “The government is picking up DMK partymen like the corporation squad chasing and hunting down stray dogs. Once we come back to power, the first thing will do is to launch cases against the very officials who are now hand-in-glove with the oppressive government in foisting cases.”


Explaining the charges against Nehru, city police commissioner E Ma Masanamuthu said the complainant, Dr K Srinivasan (55), “hails from a well-respected family of doctors.” Srinivasan has accused Nehru of usurping nearly 14,000 sqft of land near Trichy. “If you want to honour your leader by constructing a building, you must pay from your pocket and not with others’ money,” city police commissioner E Ma Masanamuthu told after Nehru and the others were sent to Cuddalore central prison.


It is a question, whether political leaders will take the money from their pocket for honour their leaders by constructing a building.

Unable to bear the burden of sins committed by evil kings and rulers, Mother Earth, appealed to Brahma, the Creator for help. Brahma prayed to the Supreme Lord Vishnu, who assured him that he, would soon be born on earth to annihilate tyrannical forces.


One such evil force was Kamsa, the ruler of Mathura (in northern India) and his people were utterly terrified of him. On the day Kamsa's sister Devaki was married off to Vasudeva, an akashvani or voice from the sky was heard prophesying that Devaki's 8th son would be the destroyer of Kamsa. The frightened Kamsa immediately unsheathed his sword to kill his sister but Vasudeva intervened and implored Kamsa to spare his bride, and promised to hand over every new born child to him. Kamsa relented but imprisoned both Devaki and her husband Vasudeva.


When Devaki gave birth to her first child, Kamsa came to the prison cell and slaughtered the newborn. In this way, he killed the first six sons of Devaki. Even before her 8th child was born, Devaki and Vasudeva started lamenting its fate and theirs. Then suddenly Lord Vishnu appeared before them and said he himself was coming to rescue them and the people of Mathura. He asked Vasudeva to carry him to the house of his friend, the cowherd chief Nanda in Gokula right after his birth, where Nanda's wife Yashoda had given birth to a daughter.


He was to exchange his boy and bring Yashoda's baby daughter back to the prison. Vishnu assured them that "nothing shall bar your path".


At midnight on ashtami, the divine baby was born in Kamsa's prison. Remembering the divine instructions, Vasudeva clasped the child to his bosom and started for Gokula, but found that his legs were in chains. He jerked his legs and was unfettered! The massive iron-barred doors unlocked and opened up.


While crossing river Yamuna, Vasudeva held his baby high over his head. The rain fell in torrents and the river was in spate. But the water made way for Vasudeva and miraculously a five-mouthed snake followed him from behind and provided shelter over the baby.


When Vasudeva reached Gokula, he found the door of Nanda's house open. He exchanged the babies and hurried back to the prison of Kamsa with the baby girl. Early in the morning, all the people at Gokula rejoiced the birth of Nanda's beautiful male child. Vasudeva came back to Mathura and as he entered, the doors of the prison closed themselves.


When Kamsa came to know about the birth, he rushed inside the prison and tried to kill the baby. But this times it skipped from his hand and reaching the sky. She was transformed into the goddess Yogamaya, who told Kamsa: "O foolish! What will you get by killing me? Your nemesis is already born somewhere else. All people of Gokul danced in joy and flocked to Nandas house to see Baby Krishna and to offer gifts.


In his youth Krishna killed Kamsa along with all his cruel associates, liberated his parents from prison, and reinstated Ugrasen as the King of Mathura.

“Junior Vikatan” News magazine in its issue dated 29-6-2011 published a story, that most of the Massage Centres in Chennai are involved in brothel business. It is reported that, recently one actress husband, who is running a massage centre compelled the fifteen Thailand Girls working in his parlour for Sex activities with the customers coming to the centre. Some months before that, one massage centre was raided at Valasarawakkam at chennai, on the complaint of doing brothel business.

In Kodambakkam, Chennai, “Theerkayusu Ayurvedic Message centre” run by a Keralite, which was using some girls for brothel was arrested by the Police. From among the girls arrested, the Police say some family girls were also involved. The family girls were made to fall victim of the trade by telling them, that they can earn thousands of Rupees within one or two hours.  By falling pray to their words, the family girls are involved in these activities

In a English magazin published from Chennai, there are advertisement exhibiting morethan 200 Massage Parlours and most of them are Brothel business centres.  There is different type of massage like Oil and Viagra oil massages. For massages Rs.1500 to Rs.5000 and for brothel they are chatging Rs.5000 to Rs.10, 000. The fickle minded family girls are main victims for these massage centres. 

In a  desperate voice, The Suprme Court already stated, if the Government was not confident in finding out a way to remove these centres, it can make the brothel business as legal. Let all the people think and findout a way to solve the brothel business running in the name of massage parlours.

Anna Hazare's anti-corruption campaign, who were demanding a strong Jan Lokpal, was received support from almost the entire India.


Anna Hazare who was arrested in the morning of 16-8-2011 refused to leave Tihar jail on 16-8-2011 mid night after the police withdrew the case against him and his seven arrested associates and a magistrate issued a release warrant for all eight.


Hazare had the police and jail authorities scratching their heads by saying he would not leave the jail until the police gave him an undertaking allowing him to hold his indefinite fast at JP Park without conditions.


Senior police officers rushed to Tihar latter to try and persuade Hazare to leave the jail, while a crowd of amused residents from nearby areas, including women and children, turned out before the gates to witness the fun.


Hazare said he would go to JP Park straight from the jail after getting an undertaking from us. Around midnight, Hazare was resting on a sofa in the office of director-general (prisons) Neeraj Kumar while jail and police officers sat in chairs around him, trying to talk him round. Hazare has refused dinner saying he is on fast.


“Both Hazare and (Arvind) Kejriwal have refused to do so. We cannot force them to sign as it will create more trouble for the government,” the jail official said.


Only one of the jailed Team Hazare members, Manish Sisodia, signed on the release order and came out. He then sat on a dharna outside the prison with hundreds of supporters who shouted anti-government slogans.

“I have come out to convey his message to the people. Hazare will leave the jail only after getting written permission to hold the protest at JP Park. Else, he will continue to be there,” Sisodia said.

S. Satyamurti (August 19, 1887-March 28, 1943) was an Indian politician and patriot. A protege of S. Srinivasa Iyengar, Satyamurti was the political mentor of Kumaraswami Kamaraj. Chakravarthi Rajagopalachari nominated Satyamurti to succeed him as President of the Indian National Congress in Tamil Nadu in 1930.He was a prominent leader of the Indian National Congress until his demise on March 28, 1943.


In 1919, when the Congress decide to send its representative to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (of the UK) to protest the Montagu-Chelmsford reforms and the Rowlatt Act, thirty-two year old Sathyamurthy was chosen as a delegate.When Sathyamurthy was in U.K. He functioned as the London Correspondent of “The Hindu”.


Though he neither became the Premier (that was the name kept for the post of Chief Minister then) nor a Minister in the State Cabinet, his work for the party is still remembered by many. When Sri. Satyamurti became the Mayor of Madras in 1939, World War II had begun. The city of Madras was in the grip of an acute water scarcity and it was left to him to impress upon the British Government and colonial Governor the importance of agreeing to the proposal of Madras Corporation for building a reservoir in Poondi, about 50 km west of the city, to augment the water supply position, especially in light of catastrophic global Events namely the Second World War. In those days, the tenure of Mayorship was only for a year but due to his relentless efforts, diplomacy in dealing with the British Governor and his administrative abilities the foundation stone for the reservoir was laid in a matter of eight months. Though Satyamurti was not alive to see the commissioning of the reservoir in 1944, the completion of the work in four years is considered, even by today's standards, something that is difficult to match. Till date, the Poondi reservoir [Sathyamoorthy Sagar] is the only reservoir built purely for the purpose of Madras water requirements.


He was also actively involved in the Swadeshi movement and was arrested in 1942 for performin ‘Individual satyagraha’ at the height of the Quit India Movement. He was deported to Amravathi Jail in Nagpur and was hurt in the spinal cord during the journey. He succumbed to his injuries at General Hospital, Chennai on March 28, 1943.


The Hindu dedicated a whole column to Sathyamurthy under the caption ‘Tribune of the people’. It said “He was a born freedom-fighter, a leadmine fighter as the Scots say to whom the fight was the thing.”


His name is barely remembered today and is largely forgotten amidst a host of prominent personages.But the few who cherish his memory continue to credit him with popularizing the Congress and Gandhian ideals in Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu state headquarters of the Indian National Congress has been named as Sathyamoorthy Bhavan. Let us all remember his selfless services to Tamil Nadu and for the Indian freedom.

The emotive Sri Lankan Tamils issue figured in the state assembly on 11-8-2010 with chief minister J Jayalalithaa insisting that India convey its protest against the “motivated” remarks of Sri Lanka defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa on the resolution passed by the assembly recently on the plight of Tamils living in the island nation.

In a recent interview to a private channel, Gotabaya Rajapaksa had hit out at Jayalalithaa for demanding that Lankan leaders, including President Mahinda Rajapaksa, be brought to trial for alleged war crimes. “This (resolutions passed in the Tamil Nadu assembly) must be for her (Jayalalithaa) to gain political advantage,” he said.


Replying to a special call attention moved by opposition parties, including the DMDK, the CPI and the CPM, Jayalalithaa said, “One suspect that Gotabaya Rajapaksa is encouraged to give such an interview because of the inaction of the Centre on the resolution passed by the assembly. This government will not rest until Sri Lankan Tamils are rehabilitated and live in conditions on a par with other Sri Lankans.” She assured members that her government would continue to take diplomatic steps and would not relent until a solution is found.


Recalling an earlier resolution urging the Centre to impose economic sanctions on Sri Lanka, Jayalalithaa said it was passed based on a UN committee report on alleged human rights violations during the final conflict between the armed forces and the LTTE. On June 8, the assembly passed a resolution demanding that the Centre take action to get all those responsible for largescale civilian deaths during the ethnic war declared as ‘war criminals’ by the International Court of Justice. It also demanded economic sanctions against the island nation to pressure the country into giving equal status and dignity to Tamils.

If, as the Sri Lankan government claimed, there were no war crimes, why were they hesitant about facing the International Court of Justice, wondered Jayalalithaa. When former chief minister M Karunanidhi observed a fast and organised a human chain protest demanding ceasefire of the war in Sri Lanka, the government there did not react. But now it has raised a hue and cry over the resolution passed by the present Government.

Sex workers, including those from Nepal, Bangladesh and CIS countries, are not bad persons but forced into flesh trade by terrible poverty, the Supreme Court said on Tuesday while directing the states to frame schemes for their vocational training to lead a dignified life.


"A sex worker is obviously not surrendering her body to a man because she loves and respects him, but just for sheer survival," a bench of Justices Markandey Katju and Gyan Sudha Misra said.


But the court was aware of the enormity of the task. "We are fully conscious of the fact that simply by our orders, the sex workers will not be rehabilitated immediately," it said. It directed, "The states should not only come out with schemes indicating therein rehabilitation of the sex workers but they should also demonstrate their commitment to the cause by coming out with some concrete results, at least in phases."


Quoting novels depicting sex workers as women of high character, it said, "If sex workers are given proper technical training, they will be able to come out of sex work and instead earn their livelihood through their technical skills instead of by selling their bodies. That will enable them to live a life of dignity."


It asked the SC panel headed by senior advocate Pradip Ghosh to provide by August 24 a list of sex workers who were living under dire circumstances and were willing for rehabilitation. To begin with, the panel was asked to focus on the four metros first.


The court wanted to involve the youth in helping the panel draft measures for rehabilitation of sex workers and created a new e-mail ID - panelonsexworkers @ gmail.com - to receive inputs from the public. The bench said, "We are informed that some NGOs have a list of numbers and localities of such sex workers who are immediately willing for rehabilitation and want to get out of the flesh trade."

The panel, which included senior advocate Jayant Bhushan, Saima Hasan of NGO Roshni and Usha Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society, told the court that its focus was to prevent trafficking of women, rehabilitate sex workers who wished to quit and also create conducive conditions for sex workers who wanted to continue with their work.

However, it complained about lack of funds from the Centre for undertaking meaningful work. The court asked additional solicitor general P P Malhotra to find funds and permanent office space for the panel to meet and discuss rehabilitation strategies.


It is the request of public, that Supreme Court must instruct, Central Government to seize the several crores of scam money from politicians and utilize them for the welfare measures of People and to give rehabilitation to Sex workers by arranging sufficient technical training for them to have their lively hood in a dignified way.

Action against land grabbers and rendering justice to the victims was one of the promises made by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa during her election campaign. The initiative to establish Land Grabbing Cells has come as a great relief to victims whose complaints were earlier brushed aside as ‘civil disputes', a police official said.


“Many poor families have lodged complaints that their only property was forcibly taken over by land grabbers. Police are taking action as per law. In Tiruchi Range that comprises of Tiruchi, Karur, Perambalur, Pudukottai and Ariyalur districts, police have received 166 complaints of land grabbing.


In Tiruchi district alone, 96 complaints were received, most of which pertained to forceful occupation of property by anti-social elements that used fake documents.


Several former ministers and the once powerful district functionaries of the party are either under judicial custody or forced to move the court for bail as complaints of land grabbing are flooding the special police cells set up by the government to exclusively deal with such cases.


The Jayalalithaa government's action has raised the hackles of DMK, provoking it to cry foul and call for a state-wide protest.

With the AIADMK Government keeping up the tempo of its crack down on land grabbers and making more preventive arrests, the DMK party started a agitation in every districts against the arrest of land grabbers.


Instead of the present agitation, Karunanidhi can stand in the next election promising that land Grabbers will be supported by his party and he can see, whether the people will vote for him.
