Jayalalitha rule gives guts to Reporter Magazine to publish survey on who is the next leader for DMK.
Recently a survey conducted by a Tamil journal has ranked DMK president M Karunanidhis younger son, M KStalin, as his most probable successor. The survey, published in the Kumudam Reporter issuedated 5-2-2012 which will hit the news stands on Tuesday, has also identified MDMK leader Vaiko, who was expelled from the DMK in 1993, as one of the contenders to succeed Karunanidhi.
Karunanidhis elder son M K Alagiri ranks second above his daughter Kanimozhi and grandnephew Dayanidhi Maran. The survey comes two days before the DMK general council meeting scheduled for February 3.
While the survey, which covered 17,620 people, including DMK cadres, members of other political parties and the public, gave Stalin the lead in the succession race with 58% polling in his favour and identifying him as the most popular choice for succeeding Karunanidhi,Alagiri came a far second with 12% voting in his favour. The surprise factor was Vaikos inclusion in the race with 8% of those surveyed favouring him for the hot seat.In fact,Vaikos popularity among the youth cadres in the DMK in the early 1990s had been a source of discomfiture for the party leadership, eventually leading to his expulsion in 1993.
While 52% of the participants in the survey said Karunanidhi should continue in politics, only 34 % said the alliance between DMK and Congress should continue and 32% were acceptable to the idea of a new party post for Kanimozhi.About 45% hooted for Udayanidhi Stalin for the post of youth wing leader while 24% favoured Kanimozhi for the same post.Only 11% preferred Alagiris son Durai Dayanidhi for the post of DMK youth wing chief. On the issue of succession, the participants gave DMK general secretary K Anbazhagan 6%,Dayanidhi Maran 5% and Kanimozhi 3%
During D.M.K. rule a similar survey in 2007 by Tamil Daily Dinakaran, owned by Kalanithi Maran, triggered violence and a rift between the Karunanidhi and Maran families. While the survey suggested that Stalin was the favourite to take over the party reins from Karunanidhi,it gave Alagiri a poor rating, far behind even Dayanidhi Maran though not mentioning his (Marans ) name. That time the Dinakaran News paper office was burnt down by the supporters of Alagiri and three employees died
Now Kumudam Reporter magazine published the survey with the guts that Jayalalitha A.I.A.D.M.K. rule will protect the magazines rights in publishing the news. Thanks to AIADMK rule.
