Marina beach is a very significant place in Chennai. Generally, all the important state level functions are organised here. Some of the important buildings of the state like Senate-House, Chepauk Palace, Presidency College, P.W.D office and Ice House are located on the beach drive. There are several statues of the Tamil scholars and Kannagi is the legendary heroine of the ancient Tamil literary work ‘Silapathigaram’ written by Ilango Adigal. She is seen as an enduring symbol of Tamil culture and chastity. The New Tamil Nadu Assembly Building is going to be opened by our beloved Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during March 2010.

Samadhis of two highly respectable souls, among the people of Tamil Nadu late chief Ministers Dr. C.N. Annadurai and Dr.M.G. Ramachandran are located alongside the Marina Beach road.
