Sibal findings and CBI Court Orders to proceed with Raja’s Spectrum scam.
Communications and IT minister Kapil Sibal on Friday [7-1-2011] launched a blistering attack on the methodology used by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) to reach a figure of 1.76 lakh crore as the presumptive loss to the exchequer caused by A Raja’s controversial award of 2G licences.
“These figures have no basis whatsoever,” he said here. “It is human to err and to err is human, so the exercise was fraught with very serious errors, which has allowed the opposition to spread falsehoods.
Unfazed by Kapil Sibal’s criticism, CAG is sticking to its estimate that the 2G spectrum allocation by A Raja in 2008 cost the exchequer a maximum of Rs 1.76 lakh crore.
Officials close to PAC and familiar with its proceedings said Sibal was going against parliamentary propriety by speaking out in public about a matter under PAC scrutiny. “His department has yet not submitted its reply to the PAC but he is speaking out in public,” a senior official said.
In the meanwhile A CBI court on Friday [7-1-2011] admitted Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy’s petition seeking the prosecution of sacked telecom minister A Raja in the spectrum scam, giving the maverick politician a locus standi in the politically sensitive case
Special CBI judge Pradeep Chaddha said that the Janata Party leader’s complaint was “maintainable”. “I have also gone through the complaint and the bunch of annexure and supporting documents and I am of the view that this complaint is maintainable and the proceedings will continue,” the judge said.
If Kabil Sibal says there is no loss in Spectrum allocation, then why Raja was asked the resign from his post and the CBI raids which have been made in the House of Raja and his associates. CBI sources already claimed there is enough evidence against former telecom minister A Raja to prove that he could be tried in the court of law under the charge of criminal conspiracy.
