In Chennai, the anti-terror cell of the Tamil nadu police on Thursday [15-5-2008] claimed to have busted a sleeper cell of Islamic extremist after raiding a house in North Chennai.
In Jaipur Rajasthan serial blasts that killed 63 people on Tuesday [13-5-2008] could have been one of the most secretive and elaborate terror designs executed in recent years on Indian soil. Although police were woefully short on details even 24 hours after shock waves ripped through northern India’s biggest tourist hub, sleuths said they had zeroed in on the cycle shop which sold the bike on which an unexploded bomb was found.
The Jaipur Officials said investigators might ask the pujari of the Hanuman Mandir at Chandpole, from where the maximum casualties were reported, to identify suspects from among the 15 unidentified bodies.
Coming soon after the serial blasts in Faizabad, Lucknow and Varanasi and the attacks in Malegaon, where the explosives were strapped onto bicycles, jehadis had taken precautions not arouse suspicion by buying only one cycle from a shop. Police tracked down the shopkeeper from the frame number on the bike.
The Rajasthan police chief said investigators were trying to map the modus operandi of the terrorists, but initial facts suggested there might be a single mastermind who coordinated the operation but kept it secret from the foot soldiers who procured the cycles and planted them in busy places.
Though the DGP did not rule out the presence of SIMI cadres in the city, he said there was nothing concrete to point to their involvement or to link the attacks to the recent arrest of SIMI’s general secretary Safdar Nagori in Indore. Police were keeping a close watch on SIMI activities in the state.
Without stopping the terrorism of Pakistan activists in Jammu and Kashmir and in several places of India there is no use having peace talk with Pakistan Government. Mere talk won’t do the peace proposal.
